My Plan.
07/03/2013 11:57I know I just posted my "In progress" weightloss pictures, but here's a little more on what I've been doing.
*I'm also using my Mom's laptop since my computer is on death's door, so if you see multiple posts in one day, that's why.
Since overhauling my diet, I've had a few obstacles in my way...like bagels. God, I love bagels. Anyways, I've had to swap, change, rearrange many things in my life because of my new situation. I find that there are still foods that don't digest well due to my gallbladder removal, as well as anything glutenous, of course. One cookie can send my stomach into a tailspin. I'll get terrible pain and look 8 months pregnant within two hours of eating something with wheat/gluten. It sucks, but it's certainly not the end of the world.
I think my biggest challenge is balancing my diet with my gluten eating, carb obsessed hubby and kids.
To keep myself on track, I've made my changes and have a few "staples" I can't live without now.
MyFitnessPal: This app has been great! Not only can I keep track of my weightloss, but it serves as a food diary as well. It's essentially a calorie counter, but I use it for more than that. Having that food diary has helped me look back if I have a digestive attack. Where is the trigger food? I can add notes to remind myself about certain questionable foods. It also keep track of my exercise for the day, as well as my water intake. My favorite part is the support system I now have in place. A few of my friends use this app as well, and we support each other through our journey.
Swapping Pasta: This has been hard, because I hate the alernative pastas out there. I just think they taste weird. I have however, been ok with using spaghetti squash, broccoli slaw, and even veggies that I've taken a potato peeler too (carrots, zucchini). A little sauce, a little cheese and I'm ok with zucchini ribbons. Plus, I can eat a boat load more to fill myself.
Pizza: Do not even attempy Domino's gluten free crust. It's a lie. They make it on the same surface as their regular pizza and you still end up feeling like you got hit by a bus. I'm still in the process of finding a good GF crust. I do like the cauliflour crust I've tried from Pinterest, but I still need to tweak it to my liking.
Not all the time, but for a quick meal: I like Amy's Kitchen. There are some great gluten free options for a quick dinner. Evol has a few good gluten free veggie bowls and gluten free burrito. I only eat these when the family orders out for dinner.
Not gluten free, but I've really been trying to cut out potato chips. I love the saltiness and crunch. Agh! I want to shove my face in a bag right now!! Blue Diamond has a great gluten free cracker, Nut-Thins. I like the original with a hint of sea salt. My husband is obsessed, and it takes all of his will power not to eat the entire box, because he know's I'll get mad. Haha. No store bought dips for me, (with the exception of salsa) because most of them have wheat in them. So, I go to my standby Trader Joe's Kalamata Hummus or TJ's Guacamole.
I guess I'm lucky that I've never been a sweet eater. I'd pass over a tray of cookies, if I could just get my hands on a salty, crunchy snack. So, I haven't gotten to involved in gluten free baking just yet. I'm sure down the line, I'll try my hand at a cookie, or bread.
Exercise: I hate it. I wish I was one of those people that couldn't live without a morning run, but unless you're trying to steal my purse or attack me with a chainsaw, there's no way I'll ever run. I knew that diet just wouldn't be enough, so I took to my Prime (on Amazon) and started streaming some beginners workouts. My favorite is, Ease Into Pilates, by Katrina Fitness. It was easy enough that I could do the moves, but challenging enough to know my fat ass is out of shape. I also try to walk around a local park, but with two kids, I'm lucky if I get one lap around the track before they're crying to play on the swings. So, midnight pilates it is!
I hope to add more recipes or tips once I get into more of a groove. This is a whole new world to me.
