Shopping for week of October 20th

10/20/2013 19:08

This was one tough week! Popo didn't work ANY overtime and we had a LOT of big bills come out of this paycheck. My food budget was tiiiiiight. Normally, we try to budget $100. I will make a extra dinner for him to pack for work, or at least stop home in the middle of the night for a bite to eat. This week, however, was a little easier since he has classes and training. No late night shifts - that means dinner at home!!

Since we had so little to work with, I made a quick list of everything I had: meats, starches, spices, etc. I used that as my guide when it came to food shopping. I was able to scour the circulars, cut a few coupons (not many this week, but still helpful), and throw together my grocery list. My goal: Under $50 for the week for 4 people. So, here goes...

Trader Joe's:

2 pints of heavy cream - I bought my cream at TJ's because I found it was $2.00 cheaper total than if I had gone to Shoprite.

7 bananas

1 package of pepperoni

2 lbs of organic carrots

Total: $11.08

Shoprite:

2 Purex laundry detergents - with my coupons they were both less than a dollar each!

1 box San Giorgio Pasta

2 cans of corn (sodium free)

2 very large containers of chicken stock - which were cheaper than the broth that was on sale. Go figure. (reduced sodium)

2 cans of green beans (sodium free)

4 cans of Red Pack tomatoes - I only had one coupon for these for $1 off 2 cans.

1 small can of white potatoes

1 small can of peas (sodium free)

1 small pancake syrup

Francesco Rinaldi pasta sauce

Shoprite waffle pretzels

1 loaf of sandwhich bread

2 1/2 lbs green seedless grapes

1 bag shredded mozzarella

1 bag shredded 4 cheese blend

1 Country Crock with Calcium

Total: $25.16

CVS:

2 Crest 3D Pro-Health toothpastes $2.99 each, but I received $4 back in Extra Care Bucks

1 CVS Chewable Antacid 12pack 99cents, but I received 99cents back in Extra Care Bucks.

Total: $.99 after Extra Care Bucks

Grand Total for everything today was: $37.23    Click HERE for my corresponding meal plan for the week!
